I've never really been one to do composite photography, I dabbled a little when I was studying and did some units which involved composite photography, but that was the extent of it...I have actually enjoyed doing it however! While we were in lockdown due to COVID-19 I found myself experimenting with different subjects and it evolved into playing around with my son's Transformer toys and decided to do something different in the form of a comic book cover (it started out as only an image)…which was purely about having a bit of fun.
So I grabbed my son's Transformers...(Bumblebee, Galvatron, Megatron and Optimus Prime) and proceeded to take what felt like 1000's of photos of these toys. Once I had done that, I worked what locations to place each toy on using my existing location shots and played around with different ideas and story...then went to work in Photoshop.
I created a "poster" image and thought why stop there, why not give it a cartoon treatment and then finish up with a vintage comic book cover. So as you will see, I have included the original image, a cartoon image and the vintage comic book cover...plus a few details for each Transformer.
All images were taken by me except the elements added, which are mentioned below in the referencing. There is also a link to a psd template that I used for the final comic book cover treatment below too.
